Garden on a slope
Client Brief:
To increase the patio area for entertaining, remove the lawn ( mowing a slope is such a chore and unusable except perhaps for rolling cheese! ) and provide an area for bin and BBQ storage. Planting including Old English roses, buxus ( Box) and lavender requested. A water feature to mask the distant sound of traffic was also desired.Solutions:
The size of the existing patio left by the developers was small by most standards! and it was clear that a larger patio and wider path would improve the garden. The main issue was that of the slope and by creating a series of steps down to a secondary area that basked in the sun allowed for a more versatile garden. The area to the side of the house became a useable storage area with the help of a fence and gate. The planting is a mixture of scented plants including Roses and Lavender which mixed with easy to maintain perennials that will fill out to create bold layers of texture and colour. The ornamental trees will also help divide the spaces and give the garden height and provide some light shade on the lower patio.
