Client Brief:
To remove the narrow concrete path and create a new paved area. The brief was quite open and there were existing structures such as the summerhouse, trees and a few plants to incorporate but the rest was open to change. Ease of plant maintenance and a lawn were high in the priority list as were attracting birds and other wildlife to the garden.Solutions:
The garden plot is quite large when drawn as a plan although in reality a good proportion of the available space had been taken over by run-away shrubs and hedging plants. A large conifer set too close to the bungalow also obstructed the view. The chosen plan opens up the garden space and the curved path that runs around the garden links all the areas together.A small greenhouse provides enough over-wintering for the plants and summer tomatoes and a large storage area obscured by trellis hides the bins and BBQ.
A central island bed makes a strong feature of the Sumac tree and the wildlife attracting perennials also hide the gardens only drain cover. The plants, bird bath and feeder attract a large number of birds to the garden I’m told as viewed from the comfort of the lounge.
